City of Walker Fire Dept. Visit

Last week was fire prevention week and we had the privilege of hosting a visit from the Walker Fire Department. The children practiced a fire drill, learned how smoke detectors have a special nose to smell smoke, see the gear a firefighter wears, and see the fire trucks! Talking about how fire can be a scary topic, yet so important to begin the conversation with children. Educating them on what is safe and unsafe and hearing it directly from a firefighter seems to have a bigger impact. It can help develop trust in firefighters and reinforce that they are here to protect them and keep them safe. What a gift when we can collaborate with our community helpers and make those lifelong connections.
