I’m sure you’re asking “what is Mystery Day?” Maybe you haven’t heard about it!

Well, let me tell you.

The fun of Mystery Day is the secrecy and “behind the scenes” planning. Especially as early childhood educators, we know the importance of preparing children for what’s ahead. Our calendars are full of details and specifics regarding each day and its plans. Mystery Day is the exception.

Our staff chooses a theme, and each team of teachers formulates a plan of how to bring that theme to life.

Which brings us to this month- our theme was BOARD GAMES.

Not just any old board game, but life size board games!

Students walked into our building to blacked-out windows, and they started their morning in our Gathering Space (the cafeteria). When the clock struck 9:00am, Mystery Day was in full force. Some teachers wore costumes (you’ll see pictures below), all classrooms were decked out and ready in anticipation for the kids to rotate through them!

The Stingrays played Hungry, Hungry Hippos, a crowd favorite. In their rotation, students either sat on scooters or pushed their partner to the center of the gymnasium. The child on the scooter had an empty, upside down laundry basket that acted as the hippo’s mouth to gobble up all of the balls on the gym floor. Ms. Emily and Miss Nicole created a space that was full of exercise and fun!

The Dolphins created life-size Sorry! on their classroom carpet. Students were put into color teams as they tried to get their “pieces” to home! They had to work together and strategize to win! Thank you, Miss Ambrosia and Miss Eve for all of your hard work!

Next up, the Sharks put together a giant Monopoly Jr. board game. Their teachers dressed ups as Rich Uncle Pennybags- the kids loved it. Students tossed inflatable dice before they moved for their turn and used Monopoly money to purchase blocks and charge their opponents. What a fun game!

Last, but not least, the Surfer teachers put together Candy Land that stretched to the width and length of their classroom. Students passed through Lollypop Woods, Gumdrop Mountains, and Candy Hearts to hopefully be the first to arrive at Queen Miss Sydnee’s Candy Castle!

And that was it! Time goes by quick on Mystery Day, but it only leaves us wondering and hoping for the next one!

Thank you to all of the teacher’s who, yet again, worked tirelessly to put together a day our students will remember! Your hard work and passion does not go unnoticed! <3
